Carnitas Tacos

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs. Pork Shoulder
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 garlic bulb
  • 1 Tbsp. ground cumin
  • 3 tsp. Chef Merito® Pork Chop Seasoning
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 lb. lard
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup cola (Coca-Cola or your choice)
  • 3 oz. condensed milk
  • 1 white onion, chopped
  • 2/3 cup cilantro, chopped

Garnish

  • ½ cup green sauce or red sauce
  • Sprinkle of cotija cheese or cheese of your choice

Preparation

  1. In a large pot over high heat, add lard and let it heat up for 10 minutes.
  2. Add the pork to the pot and fry for 10 minutes at medium-low heat.
  3. Add two cups of water, garlic bulb, ground cumin, bay leaves, Chef Merito® Pork Chop Seasoning, and the sliced orange. Stir every few minutes.
  4. Let it cook for 1 hour, then add the cola.
  5. After cooking for another hour, add the condensed milk and cook for an additional 30 minutes.
  6. Spoon the meat onto warm tortillas and top with your choice of garnish.
